Dr. Edmond A. Agyeman is the Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID), (formerly, Externally Funded Projects Office) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). Before his appointment as the Director of DRID, he was the Acting Head of the Department of Human Resource Management of the School of Business from August, 2017 to July, 2018.
Dr. Agyeman has extensive experience in research, proposal writing and project management. Since joining the UEW, he has won research grants from reputable international funding organisations, including the John Templeton Foundation, the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany and the National Teaching Council of Ghana. He is currently a team member of an international consortium which has won a grant from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research to conduct research on migration and translocality in West Africa starting from July, 2021. He has also facilitated several workshops on proposal writing for academics, government agencies and institutions. Since 2017, he has facilitated the DAAD proposal writing workshop for prospective DAAD PhD applicants and staff of public universities in Ghana.
Dr. Agyeman has rich experience in international engagements and research collaborations. He has done research in Europe (Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands), Asia (Japan), and Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Ivory Coast). Prior to joining the UEW in 2014, he worked as a research fellow/lecturer at the Institute for Migration Studies, Comillas Pontifical University, Madrid, Spain from September 2011 to March 2012, and as a fellow at the Centre for the Study of Social Stratification and Inequality, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan from April, 2012 to March, 2013. Dr. Agyeman is fluent in several languages including Kulango, Twi, English, Spanish and Italian. He has advance working knowledge in French (reading and writing).
Dr. Agyeman has PhD in Migration Studies from the Comillas Pontifical University (UP Comillas) in Madrid, Spain (2011), Diploma in Advanced Studies in Sociology from the UP Comillas (2009), MPhil in Migration Studies from the Scalabrini International Migration Institute in Rome, Italy (2007) and BA in Theology from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy (2003). He had his secondary school education at Saint James Seminary/Secondary School in Abesim-Sunyani, Ghana.
Dr Agyeman has over twenty publications in highly reputable journals and publishing houses (please, refer to attached CV). He has participated in over twenty international and local conferences, symposia and workshops.
Apart from teaching and research, he has supervised students at Bachelors, Masters and PhD levels at the University of Education, Winneba. He has also served as an external examiner for the Department of Anthropology of the University of Cape Town in South Africa and for the Institute for Migration Studies of the Pontifical Comillas University in Spain.
